Antigua, the sun is rising! When asked about his inspiration, Omari of Chosen Sounds

quickly replied, “We are creating a Reggae Dancehall industry in Antigua.”

So, it is only fitting that his name is FUCHA KID.

We see a future in his music and thousands of miles later made the connection.

As Fucha likes to say it, “LOOOK OUUT!”

How did you start working with Chosen Sounds?

My friend Nature Kid introduced me to Omari.

He saw my potential and took me under his wings.

Who are some of your biggest influences?

Buju, Luciano, Shabba to name a few.

When did you know that this was what you wanted to do?

I was seven years old and I used to sing all the time.

At that time, I was afraid of what other people might think.

I did not decide to take singing seriously until 2001.

Interesting, so did you start off as a DJ or singer?

R & B was my first love.  I later became a DJ.

Most would consider you a SingJay! What was it about Dancehall Reggae that drew you to this type of music?

My uncle who is a very conscious man listened to a lot of conscious Reggae music.

While being around him I picked up on a lot of good music.

It appears that a lot of the conscious lyrics rubbed off on you, especially with a song like Rich and Greedy.

What was the inspiration for that tune?

Me and my friend had some trouble at a job site.

What happened? you cannot just leave us hanging! [laughs]

We had a job to do and the boss promised a certain amount of money.

I had to leave so he paid me and told my friend while I was away that he paid me, for both of us.

This left me feeling like some people would do anything to get over on another person even when they have money.

When I went to the studio I just did that song from that incident.

Describe the music scene in Antigua.

The music scene is big.  The only thing is that we do not have the record labels here.

It is hard for the talent to be heard.

You also did a song with Kevin Lyttle.  How did that manifest?

He was doing a show in Antigua and pass through the studio.

The boss [Omari] put the song to me and it was bomb!

Since this is our DEM A BUSS segment.  Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?

Global, all over the world!
