It was that time of the year again when a certain glow emanated from the greater Port-Of-Spain area. This particular glow is not one of a supernatural or electrical origin; however it is electric in the sense of hundreds of hardcore feters congregating to jump, wine, wave any of their possessions and cause a major friction spark.

Of course I am referring to the annual Carnival experience known as “Wicked in White”.

This monster of a Carnival fete allows patrons to express their outward purity as they don a white ensemble while simultaneously expressing their innate party animal as they break away to the sweet sounds of Soca music in a secure environment.

As always the Dancehallsoca.com crew was glad to be on hand to capture the magic of this favoured event, its lily white atmosphere, stimulating performances and beautiful attendees.

The general fashion of the crowd could be considered casual, while some went the extra mile to bring that chic, sexy appearance.

For anyone who has never been to this fete before, it would be a true eye opener as to how some patrons decide to mix and match their white outfits with other colours or use their white articles of clothing to highlight or draw attention to certain parts of their anatomy.

Wicked in White always brings forth top notch live entertainment.

This year was no different as Soca fans were treating to the popular sounds of DJ Hi Fidelity and a collection of T&T’s hottest bands.

Shurwayne Winchester and the band Y.O.U were up first on the performance card.

With fellow Y.O.U vocalists Prestan and “Da Mastamind”, Winchester put his best foot forward to get the large crowd moving with his arsenal of Soca smashes such as “Look Di Band Coming”, “Dead Or Alive” and “Murdah”. Vincentian Soca Monarch Skinny Fabulous made an appearance on the Y.O.U set delivering his songs “De Beast Leggo” and “Head Bad”.

Kes the Band kept things rolling with their tight, well rehearsed set.

Kes’ performance also featured guest spots by Shal Marshal and Screws and the Road March hopefuls JW and Blaze. These showings were truly appreciated by the capacity crowd clad in white.

Between the band changes the DJ kept things alive while patrons were seen heading to the bars or the highly patronised Carib Brew House which featured gorgeous promotional girls who were ever willing to pose for cameras and to dance for the pleasure of spectators. In the VIP section things were definitely swinging as guests were wining to the ground and fraternising with the popular faces of T&T.

On the topic of popular names and faces and noted celebrities, several were in attendance at Wicked in White including TV6 news anchor/sports newscaster Joel Vilifana, Digicel Rising Stars judge Johnny Gonzalves and event promoter Ian Wiltshire (of Glow and Insomnia fame).

The Asylum Band featuring Bunji Garlin and wife Fay-Ann Lyons was last to appear onstage (albeit with a performance time constraint due to the fete’s contracted ending time). The duo tried their best to accommodate their fans by touching on the majority of their new and old songs and much to everyone’s amazement they attempted to make up for the lack of time by executing rapid lyric delivery.

Wicked in White seemed to have been a memorable experience for both the attendees and the promoters and DancehallSoca.com was truly honoured to capture it first hand,

Congratulations to the Privilege committee on this 2010 event sensation, in particular to Mr. Shawn Wong for organising our media access to the fete.
