Tabia your music have a unique blend of Soca, Dancehall, and R & B, was it your intention to mix genres of music?

It is important to mix because I can target a larger audience.  For example, if someone like Soca but they do not like other genres, through the fusion they are more likely to listen to it.

What was the first song you did that actually got air play?

Last year, “feeling it”, a collaborating I did with Luta [Soca Dans].

Are you a part of the Soca Dans?

Yes

For persons not familiar with the Soca Dans, what are the Soca Dans all about?

Soca Dans are a group of Vincy artistes.  The members of the Vincy Soca Dans are Luta, Jamesy P, Fireman Hooper, DJ Tarrus and I. [Soca Dans are presently on tour and would be performing in Germany, Berlin London, Canada etc.]

You are in good company!

Yes, I am and that gives me the encouragement and feeling of being comfortable on stage.  I am among people who have been doing this for years.  It is easy for them to provide direction and tell me what is required.

One of DancehallSoca’s favorite tracks is “Own Man”.  Did you write that song?

It was written by Luta, and was produced by Parry Jack.

That is interesting; did he consult with you to write the song to get the female perspective?

He does that very well, he can write from what ever perspective, male or female. [Laughs]  He is a very good writer and can get his message across.  Everybody can relate to “Own Man”.

You currently have a new single and video out, Boom Boom Boom.  Very nice video, who is the team that you are working with?

Boom Boom Boom was produced by Courtney Cutty from St. Lucia.  He has done tracks for Machel and others.  He is a renowned producer.  He works with an Independent French label owned by Emmanuelle Bruch.  After they heard this track they wanted to be involved.  We added a French rapper Nathy B.  Emmanuelle Bruch is original from Martinique and has established herself musically and also directed the video.

Who are you listening to most right now, in terms of music?

There are a couple artistes in the music industry that I like.  Beyonce, she is original in her performance and I want to imitate that with my Soca music.  I look at her as a role model.  She put so much work into her production.  Sometimes people take it for granted, it is just Soca, so anything goes.  It should not be that way because you have to give 200% with your performance.

What are you most proud of about St. Vincent and Grenadines?

St. Vincent is very beautiful.  There are people who want to stay in paradise.  The Landscape is beautiful.  I am also proud that artistes from St. Vincent are being more recognized. Skinny Fabulous is doing wonders. Back in the day they did not take St. Vincent seriously.

When you say seriously, do you mean the music business?

Yes, there are the older artist who made their name but for the young artistes who are up and coming, we are starting to see their names out there.

How do you think you will benefit in a music Industry where music as a whole is lacking in sales?

The benefits will come from performances.  This is the reality with music business now.

What part of St. Vincent are you from?

I'm originally from Fountain here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Who is your biggest supporter?

Wow, that is a tough question.  You want me to start naming names and next we know there is a problem. [Laughs]

Well, who ever you are comfortable with naming. [Laughs]

I am getting a lot of support from people in France.  Even though their English is limited they are supporting and wanting me to be there soon.  Vincy is supportive, and especially St. Lucia is supporting.  I do have a lot of supporters in Trinidad.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

I intend to be very big.  I have the drive and motivation to be the next big thing out of St. Vincent.  I will have to focus for the next five years [Laughs]

Any Shout outs and last words!

Yes, my family and everyone else who has supported me.  Also, the video is number on TorontoLime.com.  I created a fan page on facebook.  The video should be on Tempo and RE TV in Jamaica very soon.  Purchase song Boom, Boom, Boom By Tabia Ft. Nathy B

PS: Tabia was nominated for the Best New Female Soca Artist in the International Soca Awards this year in Turks and Caicos.
