DANCEHALLSOCA.COMPUBLICATION

It’s easy to judge Dancehall Music but it’s another thing to try and stem its progress, especially when you have an artist that denotes traits similar to that of one of the world’s strongest elements. Given Dancehall’s competitive culture such an element provides a force unstoppable and unfazed by any detractor. Teflon as his name implies is not your average talent, he displayed in his first mainstream single GUN RISE lyrical strength and vocal range parallel to that of other veteran Recording Artists. Born, raised and currently living in the parish of St. Mary Teflon has traveled a far way from home to prove just how credible a DJ he is. In a scheduled interview with dancehallsoca.com the young Rastafarian shared full details about his musical journey both past and present.

Yea mi deh yah a hold a normal vibe a write two song just want to keep the meditation flowing”.

Let’s go back a bit in your musical career, how did you start out in music?

Well the I start out a play inna music, a play Congo Drum first a primary school, overall from their the music inna mi. Is a inborn concept but we start play the Congo Drum and leave from their and go high school where mi start play Keyboard and Record same way but mi neva tek it to the studio cause the drums weren’t mine at the time, but that’s were it started ”.

What was the first song you recorded as a DJ?

Jah know, the first song mi record was BLESS ME JAH, yea mon Bless Me Jah was the first song”.

What year was it recorded?

"That was about 2001,yea round about that”.

As a DJ what make you unique, what sets Teflon apart from other artists?

Well Teflon totally different still, but some people might say Teflon sound like Kalongi (Sizzla) same way, Kalongi a the real man that a hold the order towards it and we love Kalongi so you done know respect Kalongi to the max, but you see I, I do I thing and feel like say I’m different same way. Big up everyone that a do them ting still”.

I saw you perform at Fully Loaded 2007, you have strong stage presence but tell me do you prefer live performances or studio sessions?

Both yuh know but hear what happen now you see when you are on the stage it give you even more strength, more authority to rule up the vibes more, cause you have the people in front of you so you have to just present your thing, so right now when a my time on the stage the I just present my thing the right and proper way. In the studio laying a track is no problem, just relax your mind and tek yuh time and do yuh ting. Theirs a difference but I love the stage, a the real ting that”.

Your most successful single to date is GUN RISE tell me what other songs have you done?

Well right yah now after we put out GUN RISE on the same Arrows Production mi do Success that was on Arrows Production again and currently mi a drop out one fi Steven (Big Ship Producer) now weh call BOBO RUN OUT ON DEM and another one called girl your mine, so overall wi just a gwan do the single them plus wi just wrap up a video with me and Marlon Binns, MAKE IT is the name so that one soon release same way”.

Who was one of the first person to recognize you as a talented DJ?

As producer, the first studio I recorded at way Double Lion and when mi come inna the town yah now Arrows, but even before that I was recording with DJ Wayne the real man that tek up the thing and say Teflon anything you a do proper because the meditation well right, the voice well right and everything connect, so DJ Wayne was one of the first even. Slade no joke a deh so the thing deh”.

So tell me, how did you get the name Teflon?

The name yuh done know meditation is unstoppable and Teflon is very much unstoppable so a desso the name come from yuh see it, the youth them around see it and is a little juvenile gimmie the name so right now I have to give thanks cause when mi get the name mi just say mi ago work with it, yea mon a real ting”.

The summer has basically ended but where can we see Teflon perform in the coming months?

Ah.. right now as we say the majority of shows we were on kinda off due to the situation (Hurricane Dean Devastation) so first and foremost mi would have to check back mi schedule and see but overall the majority of shows put off right now”.

Last question, you are yet to release an album how soon can we expect it?

Me a tell you the people really need an album but a just true mi nuh really have a set but solid Agency a gwan do the thing, mi not forcing it for this year still but maybe early next year, yea a the love same way so a just one link”.
