Dancehall legend Spragga Benz and emerging artist Serani in
one place made perfect sense. The night
started off with a slew of selectors taking the stage. However, At about 12 am the mood changed when Hartford Police made their
presence known. It was clear they were
not there to serve and protect. As
patrons were still coming into the venue, officers stated that the party was
over.
The motivation was unclear at first, while patrons asked for their money back. Hartford’s finest was more focused on getting paid for the night. This made sense; they would jeopardize the people and their fun in order to get a little money. After the pepper spray for no reason; the promoters sort out the mishap. This was a clear attempt by the Hartford Police to bring passa passa to the event. The patrons came back and started to enjoy early juggling by sounds likes of Black hustler and Ultimate Shine. Inside the house was artists Kiprich , Alrick Facey, Frassman, and Arlandon.
Serani entered the stage with a clear mission to remind us
of his positive vibes in Dancehall music.
Spragga brought the energy to the stage from the start. Spragga blazed his old hits and newer tunes
for a jumping audience.
It was sad to learn
that Spragga’s son was shot and killed by police in Kingston,
Jamaica a day after this
performance.
