Her voice is reminiscent of another place and time. This Caribbean pop princess is striving for excellence. The first time we talked she was in Jamaica. The next time DancehallSoca was able to get a hold of her, she was in Trinidad. When this interview took place she was leaving the television studios and by the time this interview was over she was on her way to another interview.
Can you pinpoint a time when you wanted to do all of this for a living?
After university I took the opportunity to record a song and it was a hit. My first performance was for 3000 people.
What was the name of that song?
“Anything you want” Written by Sef Gaines and produced by Shell Shock.
You have a fusion of Caribbeansounds. What influenced that direction?
My music is Caribbean pop. The music is Caribbean music but has a different feel.
One of your singles “First Touch” has a soothing but contemporary feel.
It was a true experience!
Wow! Is that so?
When I wrote the song I wanted some music to go with it. It was produced by Secret Tunes.
Is there a full length album in the works?
I have enough songs to make an album. To me all my songs are good for an album.
Who wrote the treatment for your video?
[Watch on DancehallSoca.TV]
I came up with the treatment. I wanted a sensual, sexual but sophisticated vibe. It was actually inspired by D’Angelo’s video.
Which D’Angelo video?
The one where he is naked! [laughing] Every time that video comes on women stop and look at it.
Who directed it?
Robin Chin, from Charmed Realism. He also directed for Norris Man, Bling Dawg. The video was shot in Jamaica.
Are you more influenced by Love or Trials?
I want to bring the love of life. We have different forms of love. Passion, breakups.
Are you a model?
I model for my own album.
Well, DancehallSoca.com readers are going to like the pictures.
I have done some commercials and three part soap opera. I played a character where I was trying to steal a woman’s man in a wedding [laughs].
What part of Trinidad are you from?
St. Vins, Port of Spain.
Where do you see yourself in Ten years?
The Caribbean queen. I claim that title because Caribbean people and the world will love my music. I will continue Charity work for Caribbean women.
Thank you Nyaka!
