First of all, let me say congratulations on winning the USA female Soca artist of the year.
What part of the Caribbean are you from?
Grenada.
Who are some of the artist that you model yourself after?
Onika Bostic. I listen to a lot of Soca, alternative music.
What is the vibes in Grenada like?
More party vibes, a lot of action on the dance floor.
How long have you been performing and why the move to do this professionally?
I grew up listening to Soca music. The movement was natural.
I decided to do this professionally in November 2006.
What was the defining moment for you to say I will be a doing this professionally?
My family was very supportive, especially my siblings. I have supportive friends who pushed me to use my talents.
Have the title Soca artist of the year open more doors for you?
Yes it has! People recognize my work more.
There is also more opportunity to work with the right people.
Describe the first time you heard your music on the radio?
My first song that played on the radio was “Aggressive.”
It was great because I got a chance to have my work be validated.
Did you write it?
I wrote the song and it was produced by Brent from Oasis production.
I write from the perspective that people can relate. I have what I call an alternative style.
What do you enjoy most about Carnival?
The energy, the people, and all of the positive vibes.
What are some of your of the things you like to do outside of music?
I model high fashion doing run way and print, I also play steel pan.
Who are some of your biggest supporters?
Mom, siblings. I had an opportunity to focus because my mother had me on lock down. My mother was strict in a good way.
Are you also learning the business?
I do a lot of research. I continue to learn a lot.
