Keron James is multi-talented!  That may just be an understatement.  He is a lawyer, singer, and DancehallSoca.com has crowned him a model.   He is unique and talented.  As you all know in the Caribbean this is normal ambition.  Keron keeps it all in perspective with the help of his team, so he can focus on making great music.

Keron where did you earn your law degree?

I lived in the United States for eight years.  While there, I attended college in North Carolina.

Was it your mission to be an entertainment lawyer?

Not really.  There is so much talent in the Caribbean.   I wanted to highlight the business aspect.  I made the decision to gain some skills in the Entertainment industry.

Do you find the decisions you make about business and your music tend to be different from other artist?

Yes, I really make sure that the decisions I make with my music are solid from a business perspective.

 What kind of music does Keron James like to perform?

I do it all.  I really like to do R & B music.  Being an R & B artist in the Caribbean give you less of a chance of making it.  I am attempting to bring R & B with a Caribbean mix. 

How was your relationship with Magic Box agency established?

Magic box started out as clients of mines.  They are a group of young and very talented people.  About a year and half ago I had them take care of some business issues for me.

They manage you?

Magic Box does all my booking.

Do you write and produce your material?

I write all my songs.  Danielle Simpson produced “so hot.”  He is a young but talented producer.  I also work with Julio from MKB studios.

How did the collaboration with Rita Jones develop?

She was working with Julio and we connected through that link.  “Stay with me” me is where I get to bring out my vocal abilities.  I am most comfortable with this type of song.

 Are there plans for a full length album?

I currently have four songs for an album that should be ready in a year.  We want everything to be up to standards.

I understand that you do some work with Machel Montano.  How are you involved with him?

I am involved with him through music business consulting.  KVJ consulting.

How do you keep things balanced?

I have a quality team around me.  If you don’t do that then you will be a tired man. A strong team is necessary.  On the consulting side I try not to micro manage.  I focus on being a lawyer.   I have proper management to avoid major headaches.

Where do you get all this inspiration?

I love Caribbean music and the vibes change all the time.  When I was in North Carolina I would go to the Caribbean clubs and pick up on the new vibes.

Is there a particular young woman who is also providing inspiration for all those tunes?

Yes, Love and heartbreak is something that surrounds us everyday. 

What type of growth would you like to see in Soca music?

I would like Soca music explode on the world stage.  I also want artist to make the income they deserve.  Artist will also have to protect their music rights.  Musicians will have to be more business savvy.

What is Keron up to when not being so busy with Law and music business?

I love my family & relationship.   I relax with my girlfriend, mom, sister.

Who is the lucky young lady and is she an artist?

She is not an artist.  Jonna is in marketing.  She knows the business and she is not surprised by the things that come with it.
