She has been places.   You have heard her voice.   Maybe you were in Jamaica and checked out Byron Lee and the Dragonaires.  M aybe it was on the on the Dawg E. Slaughter song “burning.” DancehallSoca would like to introduce to you the talented, ambitious, and extraordinary Keishea Stewart!

What is Keishea Stewart up to these days?

I am preparing material to get back in studio.  I have a small tour in New York City.  Then I am on to Canada for Mothers day.  I have a show in Orlando and then I prepare for my exams.

You are still in school?

Yes, getting a degree in early childhood education and doing cosmetology.

Keishea you are focused. [laughing]  How do you see all those things fitting together?

Music is my life.  However, the music is slow at times.  I like to learn new things and want other things to fall back on.  I do classes when I am back in Trinidad.

Western Union

Do you writer your own songs?

I co write.  “Pack yu tings” was written by Nadia Batson.  She is a very talented song writer and artist.  I am also working on two other songs with Khaos Belfon for 2008.

So are you touring with a band or as solo artist?

I am touring with a band but also looking to be a solo artist as well.  As a solo artist, I am still venturing to become very strong.    The promoter JMC Trivini has been giving me the opportunity since 2005.  I also worked with Byron Lee.

When did you work with Byron Lee?

I lived in Jamaica for a couple years.  I left in 2005 to pursue my solo career.  The people in Jamaica are outgoing and it was like a second home.

So you left on good terms?

Yes.

How are you preparing yourself to take your career to the next level?

I look at the ups and down.  I remain humble and let the master let it happen.  Let the magic happen for itself.  I want to be an ambassador and spread love through the music.  It is a part of my spirituality through music.  I have been doing music for 15 yrs.  It does not last forever.  I love the people.  As entertainers we serve the people.

You have been doing this for so long.  You have been there with the legends in the game.  You seem to be Trinidad's  best kept secret.

I would love to bring my career to the best of the best.  I let my music out on the net.  Thank God for technology.  Thank God for Khaos Belfon and Ms. Alysha.  DancehallSoca is doing a good job by bringing our music to the forefront.

You have such a wonderful voice.  Are members of your family into music as well?

My mom is a singer and she used to be a background singer for Kitchener.  The rest of my family either sing or played instruments.  My grandmother plays the sax, guitar, piano, and has a degree in music.

Are there any collaboration with grandma [laughs]?

No, my grandma is not of the world.  She is old school.  I was brought up with Gospel.  She wants me to go back but my heart is with Soca.

Thanks a lot Keishea for taking the time out to chat with us.

I just want to say thanks to Orlando and DancehallSoca.com for making the effort.  I pray for you all.  God bless!
