What songs are you currently working on?

I am working on a new song called hardcore.  We are working on the finishing touches.

There seem to be a slew of artist who is coming out.  What is promising in Soca music for you Flava?

We need to push Soca some more.  The artost who are out there before us not doing much to help the other artist.  The music will reach far with people like Cameron [CEO Black Roots] and DancehallSoca.com.  We need these people helping to bring new artist.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I am looking for that big break.  I want to see myself as a big artist.  If I can get to those heights, I will surely appreciate it.

Most people do not realize how difficult it is to write a good song.  Where do you find the inspiration to write?

My father is old Calypsonian name Mighty Conqueror.  While I was traveling from place to place like WashingtonDC and Boston Carnival, they would want me to sing something from my father.  Like “fresh water Yankee”.  I never really pay it no mind.  They encouraged me and I decided to try it.   I then wrote the bottle song.

Tell us about the bottle song!

The song is about the dj’s who do not want to play the Soca songs in Trinidad parties.  All they play is Reggae.   I have nothing against Reggae.  I love my Reggae music.  They said it might incite violence but we also want to promote Soca.

I notice nowadays in Jamaica they are now embracing Carnival.  There is a movement happening with Caribbean music.  How are you preparing yourself for the world stage?

I am young in the business.  Cameron is helping a lot and pushing me far.

Trinidad is a place I like to visit.  Tell us about the vibes in St. James?

St. James is like Manhattan.  There is a lot happening with live entertainment and shows.  Calypso music is on the move.  I want to go back down there and do some positive stuff for St. James.

What would surprise people about Flava?

They will be surprise when they hear Miguel singing Soca.  I use to run taxi back home in St. James.  A lot of people know me as Miguel.

What is your full name?

Miguel Dixon

Who is your biggest supporter?

Cameron, my wife Stacy, and my daughter Kadisha.

Thank you Flava
