Are you from a musical family?

The people on my father side are from Jamaica and they were tailors.  He sewed closed for the temptations and four tops.  I later learned that my father wrote and sings songs.

How would you best describe the music you do?

I call it Twine.  I like to mix up and do a little Soca, singing, and DJing.  Sometimes they say I sound like a man because of the way I change my voice on different tracks.

 Do you play instruments?

I play the trumpet and I think that so many people will be surprised by that.

What keeps you going on a professional and artistic perspective?

I put God first in everything.  I work closely with Michelle K. Williams.  I have different projects in the works.  I am putting together some commercial songs that blend Dancehall, Soca, and Rock.

Do you find that your ability to do so many different kinds of music helped you?

Versatility plays a lot in music.  In my performance I can play for different audience.

So how did the Good Morning America appearance happen?

Well it all started because I wanted sexy feet [laughing].  I went to see Dr. Zong in NYC.  He heard my music and liked it.  I was invited to perform for one of his functions.  He then asked me to appear on Good Morning America with him.  They profiled my feet for two seconds and then the rest of the times were on my music.

You have a new video out called “On the Road.”  Where did the concept for the new video come from?

Me!  I don’t depend on anyone to do my thing.    In the video we are on a mission to reach bacchanal.

So how did you get KMC to be in this video?

We chose KMC because he has a wide reach and I will be doing a song with him called “Bare Back.”

Hmmm!  What could this song possibility be about?

See your mind is already in a dirty place.  When we go party and the men take off their shirts and us woman can see their bare back.  [Laughing]  I promote safe sex and this song is about fun.

So are you and Tony Rebel an item?

No we are friends [laughing].  I am doing a song with Tony as well.  I will hopefully be at Rebel Salute performing.

I just thought I would ask since we saw you too hugging up.

I am doing a song with Tony Matterhorn called “Stick Shift.”  Stick shift is a dance.  This is exclusive for DancehallSoca.com.  The dance will be a combination of Dancehall and Soca songs.

Do you see more collaboration between Dancehall and Soca artist?

I think there was time when people were not open minded.  So when we started to realize that we are all from the same background.  It is an exciting thing for the music to come together.  I saw Beenie man and KMC performed at Soca Monarch and it was crazy.  The styles have to click.

What can you tell people that they might not know about you?

I am genuine and passionate about my community.  I have a non profit called Save Something Special.  We give out school supplies, cook food for the homeless or help regular people who need it.

Thanks a lot for the interview Esssence!
